Learning from Those Better Than You
Thank all of you who have connected with me to improve your game. It is certainly a pleasure getting your game to where you want it to be. Those of you that remain unconvinced, you're missing out!
A golfer is a hypnotist’s delight because the game is dependent upon concentration. Mental rehearsal and focusing techniques are perfect golf companions.
No time like the present let’s get started?
Here goes. Travel back to the first article and go through the relaxation and deepening relaxation and tack our “General Performance” imagery to it. Read, re-read and read again.
This is designed to help you improve your skills by learning from someone you feel is superior to your skills.
I'd like you now, to bring to your awareness an athlete who has the abilities you desire. If you cannot “see” the person that’s okay, you can just get a sense of them being in front of you, or even hear them coming from a certain direction in your mind.
Now, walk toward that person and introduce yourself. It’s perhaps with a bit of awe that you find yourself in front of this amazing athlete, that’s okay. Just let them know who you are, and tell them what traits and skills you admire in them.
Let them now how much you would like to possess the same or even greater level of skills. Share with them that you would like the opportunity to learn and understand even better how they perform so well in golf. (Pause for 30 seconds)
Now imagine this person, with patience and a willingness to want you to learn from them. As they open their arms up, you walk into and enter their body.
Notice how different it feels and what it sounds like having their voice of experience in your mind. What does it look like from this person’s point of view (pause for 20 seconds).
Now, imagine walking onto the course and as you remain inside this champion, you to begin feeling this athlete performing in their game, and specifically the technique you wish to improve.
Notice the position and angle of your body, how easily you execute the movement and seem to do this unconsciously (Pause fro 30 seconds). You are now keenly aware of how this technique is executed, maybe not consciously, but you have the technique in your mind and body. It will be there for you, long after this session is complete.
As you gently remove yourself from this person’s body, you turn to them and thank them for the gift they have given you. They graciously accept your thanks and offer to help you out again any time you need more distinctions.
As you part ways with this person you go onto the course yourself. Notice how even though it’s only you, you seem to have all the skills and confidence of this person inside you.
Notice how you feel, notice what you focus on, and notice what you say inside yourself. Notice how your balance has improved and how everything flows seamlessly and effortlessly.
Now, count from one to five… and when you hear the number five… you will feel alert…energized…and wonderful in every way…1…2…coming all the way back feeling positive…calm…3…4…your mind is clear and body is refreshed…5…wide awake and ready to have a great game
