Tour-level pros, including Tiger Woods, Tom Kite, and Nick Price, consult sports psychology coaches, and so do weekend players, too. What can I do for your game?
Here are some of the benefits:
- Relaxation techniques can block out noises and any disturbing, irrelevant thoughts that might impede your game.
- My techniques can increase your concentration. Focusing on the here and now is crucial to the game.
- Suggestions can remind you that your brain and nervous system are capable of performing the skills they know without any interference from you.
- The right thoughts can teach you rituals to do in the down time, to stay calm.
- I can train you, with mental rehearsals, to swing the club in predictable ways over which you have full control.
Shall we get started?
Here goes. Travel back to the first article and go through the relaxation and deepening relaxation and tack our "Putting" imagery to it. Read, re-read and read again. And now that my prediction about the weather has come to fruition, serious golfing is well on its way.
Putting - Time to Hole Out!
Just imagine walking toward your ball, you have already placed the last shot into the forgotten past, and the only thing on your mind now is your putting game. As you read the green. You envision the line and trust the line. Just imagine the cup opening up to assist you in your goal. You begin to feel more confident knowing that your unconscious mind has the ability to calculate all of the factors involved in order to guide the ball easily into the cup.
Before you tap the ball into the cup, begin this mental process every time... Imagine the ideal putt. See the line, and trust the line. You envision your stroke...smooth with acceleration thru the ball. Your arms swing like a pendulum, graceful and smooth. You feel as though your club is an extension of your body. The ball travels the line exactly as you had planned as you hear that all too familiar sound of the ball landing in the cup.
Knowing that the body does what the mind tells it to do; you are now prepared for you shot in the physical form.
No matter how far the pin may be, it seems as though it's only an arm's stroke away.
You will see the line, and you will trust the line.
Your arms are like a pendulum that swings from the shoulder graceful and smooth, with wrists locked; your club is an extension of your body, and your pendulum will swing consistent and smooth.
You will trust your unconscious mind to assess the distance and line accurately.
You are relaxed, and void of tension, feeling calm and centered.
Your muscles are free flowing, and fueled by confidence.
You will only see the positive target.
With childlike fervor, you will tap in short range puts.
Your stroke is smooth.
You will accelerate through the ball.
You will see the shot, and you will execute the shot.
Every time you putt, you will imagine the cup opening up and attracting the ball inward.
You will trust your unconscious mind to calculate the speed, direction, and curves required in order for the ball to roll easily into the cup.
You will block out all distractions, the only thing in your awareness will be the ball, the cup, and the path most likely to sink the putt.
Now, count from one to five... and when you hear the number five... you will feel alert...energized...and wonderful in every way...1...2...coming all the way back feeling positive...calm...3...4...your mind is clear and body is refreshed...5...wide awake and ready to have a great game
