There’s an old saying among computer programmers—“Garbage in, garbage out.” It means that if you put bad data into a computer, you can expect the output to be less than great. The mind is like a very complex computer in some ways. Maybe you want to get rid of some garbage that you put in your mind; well that’s exactly what we are doing!
We're imputing good stuff and with regular practice we will get better and better stuff, now doesn't that sound wonderful!
Okay, on to the next segment. Can't you just feel yourself getting better?
Here goes. Travel back to the first article and go through the relaxation and deepening relaxation and tack our Short Game imagery to it. Read, re-read and read again. If you do it between rainstorms then you should be a very, very good player. News flash; this is the wettest year we've had in 70 years…70 years.
Short Game
…just imagine walking toward your ball, you have already placed the last shot into the forgotten past, and the only thing on your mind now is the shot before you. As you assess the lie of the ball, the distance to the pin, and the speed of the green, you begin to feel more confident knowing that your unconscious mind has the ability to calculate all of the factors involved in order to guide the ball easily into the cup.
It does not matter where your ball has landed; it could be on the fairway, the rough, or the bunker. You have the skills and the ability to successfully navigate the ball to its intended target. Approach any of these scenarios with the same level of confidence, certainty, and ease. The kind of confidence certainty and ease that ensures an excellent shot.
Before you swing the club, begin this mental process every time… Imagine the ideal shot. Your chipping should always have the same speed and force allowing the club to do the work, so just remember a time when your swing was smooth and consistent. If you can't remember a time, imagine a time. You start down with the confidence to swing thru it. As a result, you hit the ball first followed by the perfect divot. The ball pops into flight and lands exactly as you had intended it and it rolls comfortably into the cup…Almost as if the cup opened up and attracted the ball inward.
Knowing that the body does what the mind tells it to do; you are now prepared for your shot in the physical form.
Remember that no matter how far the pin may be, and what surface the ball is lying. It seems as though it’s only an arm’s stroke away.
You will select the correct club for the shot, and feel certain that you have chosen the correct club.
You will manage the golf course smartly and appropriately to your game.
You are in control of your thoughts.
When executing the swing in your short game, you will get up and down consistently well if you miss the green in regulation.
You will accelerate through the ball.
You will see the shot, and execute the shot.
Your skills on the approach are improving with every game you play.
You are relaxed, and void of tension, feeling calm and centered.
Your muscles are free flowing, and fueled by confidence and certainty.
You will only see the positive target.
Focus on what you want.
Give yourself permission to relax.
Stay focused and calm; allow your unconscious mind to make the calculations necessary for success.
Now, count from one to five… and when you hear the number five… you will feel alert…energized…and wonderful in every way…1…2…coming all the way back feeling positive…calm…3…4…your mind is clear and body is refreshed…5…wide awake and ready to have a great game
