Beginning on Thursday, May 6th at 5:00PM, a weekly 9-hole game will begin at Green Mountain. This game is open to all Green Mountain members and guests and will emphasize the social values of golf, including golf etiquette, basic rules and generally will welcome players new to the game of golf. New players, without established handicaps will be paired with more experienced players who will share their golfing experience throughout the course of the round. Bill Chan, currently serving as Vice President of the Green Mountain Golf Club will act as the event coordinator, with support from other members of the Board. The event is open to all golfers, young and old, male and female and experienced or totally new to the game. It's hoped that the event will serve as a welcoming party for new players who want to "ease into golf." While all players are expected to abide by the rules of golf, the emphasis will be as much on the social values of the game as it is the competitive aspect. Players new to the game will learn how to join the Men's Club or Ladies Association if they choose to move in that direction. This new event will be four months in duration, ending on Thursday, September 2nd. The nine hole game scores will count in developing a handicap for new players and will be posted for those players with existing USGA handicap indexes. For those who are not members, applications are available in the Green Mountain Pro Shop. The cost of $20 covers a $17 green fee and a $3 weekly game. Players may call the Green Mountain Pro Shop (360/833-8463) at least 48-hours in advance to reserve a starting time.
